Two of North Carolina's leading civil rights organizations this week launched a new website that aims to present stories of loving and committed North Carolina families with gay and lesbian members in order to raise awareness and increase public support for the equal rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people in North Carolina and across the nation.

The KNOW + LOVE Project (http://www.knowandlove.org/) is a collaboration between the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina Legal Foundation and Equality NC Foundation. Both organizations are founding members of the Coalition to Protect All NC Families, a statewide group formed to defeat Amendment One, a proposed constitutional amendment that could take away basic legal protections from thousands of loving and committed unmarried or same-sex couples and their children and will appear on North Carolina's May 8 primary ballot. The groups plan to release new videos over future weeks and months as part of an ongoing public education campaign about LGBT North Carolinians.

The website also encourages North Carolina families with LGBT members to submit and share their own stories through text, photos, and videos.
