Seth Friedman joined the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina in 2017. As the Director of Philanthropy, Seth is tasked with increasing public awareness, memberships, and support for the advancement and defense of all North Carolinians’ civil rights and liberties.
Before joining the ACLU-NC, Seth worked for equal rights and equal opportunity for children and families throughout America.
After graduating from East Carolina University (Go Pirates!), Seth moved to Illinois to work at a residential childcare facility that served as a home for children and teens in need. Moving back East, Seth transitioned to Boystown NY. As the Acting Program Operations Manager, Seth oversaw rehabilitation facilities for would-be incarcerated NYC teenagers as an alternative to secure detention. His work at Boystown also took him to Omaha and Las Vegas.
Along his journey, Seth earned a Master’s in Public Administration from CUNY Baruch and Certificate of Ethical Leadership from Rutgers University.
Coming full circle, Seth became the Director of Programs and Strategic Development for Vacamas Programs for Youth—where he went to summer camp as a child. Most recently, Seth oversaw fundraising, marketing, and communications for NJCDC who operated The Great Falls Promise Neighborhood in historic and impoverished Paterson, New Jersey.
Seth is passionate about his family, equality, social justice, and NBA basketball. His wife and three children are excited to join him in North Carolina.
