Take Action

With the help of our membership, supporters and volunteers, the ACLU-NC works to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the individual rights and liberties that are guaranteed to all people in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States and North Carolina.

Whether you’re raising public awareness, working to shift policy, or organizing for the ACLU-NC, there are countless ways to support our work. Below are some of the meaningful activities in which you can participate to defend civil rights here in North Carolina:

Become a Member or Donate to the ACLU-NC

You can support the work of the ACLU-NC by becoming a member and/or making a tax-deductible financial contribution. In these two essential ways, you can ensure the continued success and growth of our litigation, legislative, public education and outreach programming efforts. Get Active in Your Community

Find out more about a local ACLU chapter or start a chapter in your community, college or high school. There are many volunteer-run chapters across the state that actively address local civil liberties issues. Each chapter serves as its community’s “watchdog” and promotes civil liberties education and awareness through organizing issue-based events, writing letters to the editor, and developing relationships with local organizations.

Join the ACLU-NC Action Alert Email List

By signing up for the ACLU-NC Action Alert List, you will receive updates on pending legislation, complete with bill summaries, talking points and contact information for communicating with key legislators. Volunteer

Volunteers are the backbone of the ACLU. Volunteers make the ACLU’s work to protect and extend civil liberties and civil rights possible.

We have a variety of volunteer opportunities available and do our best to match your interests and expertise with our current needs. Many of our opportunities extend beyond our office out into communities throughout North Carolina.

Ways you can volunteer include, but are not limited to:

· Tabling at events
· Hosting a house party
· Local organizing
· Phone banking, and
· Being a community “watchdog!
